Sunshine Heroes Brings Clean Water to Karen Hill Tribe Villages in Chiang Mai, Thailand
Chiang Mai, Thailand – Sunshine Heroes Foundation, in collaboration with the Raintree Foundation, has made a significant impact on the health and well-being of the Karen Hill Tribe communities in northern Thailand. Through the installation of Bio-Sand water filters, this project has provided clean, safe drinking water to four remote villages, benefiting over 4,000 people annually.
The Bio-Sand filters, a modern adaptation of traditional sand filtration methods used for centuries, were installed in early 2013. These innovative filters use natural processes to purify water, requiring no electricity, fuel, or chemicals. The filters are produced locally using materials and labor in Thailand, ensuring sustainability and long-term impact. They are designed to last for decades, making them an ideal solution for these isolated communities.
Thanks to the funding from Sunshine Heroes Foundation, the Bio-Sand filters have been placed in villages that previously had limited access to safe drinking water. The project will provide clean water for these communities for the next 20 years, dramatically improving public health and reducing waterborne diseases.
“The ability to provide clean water to these villages is a life-changing achievement for the Karen Hill Tribe people,” said a representative from Sunshine Heroes. “We are honored to have partnered with the Raintree Foundation to make this vision a reality, and we are grateful to the communities that welcomed this project with open arms.”
