Zhongwei, China – Sunshine Heroes Foundation, in collaboration with the Yangfan Foundation, has made a significant impact on the health and well-being of children attending 50 boarding schools in Zhongwei, a desert region in Ningxia Province, China. This project, completed on September 3, 2012, has provided safe drinking water to an estimated 30,000 children each year.

Zhongwei, located in one of China’s most arid regions, faces a severe lack of access to clean water. The local population lives on an average annual income of just $535 per household, and the availability of potable water is extremely limited. Most residents have had no choice but to drink contaminated water, leading to serious health concerns, particularly among children.

By partnering with a local Chinese organization, Sunshine Heroes was able to install clean water filters in several schools throughout Zhongwei. This initiative will provide students with access to safe drinking water, greatly improving their health, safety, and ability to learn. The water filters, which require minimal maintenance and are designed to last for years, will continue to benefit children in the region for the long term.

“We are grateful for the opportunity to work with the Yangfan Foundation to bring clean water to these schools,” said a representative from Sunshine Heroes. “Access to clean water is a basic human right, and we are proud to be part of a solution that will positively impact thousands of children in Zhongwei.”
