Ojochal, Nicaragua – Sunshine Heroes, in partnership with the Nicaragua Children's Foundation, has opened a new Sunshine Center in Ojochal, Nicaragua, a community that previously had limited access to essential services. This new center will provide much-needed resources for the surrounding communities of Ojochal, Torovenado, Miravalle, and Fátima.

The Sunshine Center includes a library, health clinic, playground, and garden, creating a hub for education, healthcare, and recreation in a region where such services were previously scarce. In a country where local libraries do not lend books and new books are rare, the Sunshine Center’s library will offer children better access to reading materials than ever before, significantly improving educational opportunities.

Healthcare access has also been a challenge in Ojochal, with the nearest clinic over a 24-hour walk away. At the Sunshine Center, a Nicaraguan doctor will provide medical consultations once a month to residents of the surrounding communities, greatly improving healthcare access.

The Sunshine Center’s playground is the first and only one in Ojochal and one of the largest in Nicaragua. Prior to the playground’s construction, children in the area had never had the opportunity to play on such equipment. The playground's immediate popularity was evident when the paint on the slide wore off on its very first day of use!

With a total project cost of $30,000, the Sunshine Center is set to impact approximately 3,000 people annually, providing crucial resources and support for local families.

“We’re excited to bring much-needed resources to Ojochal and the surrounding communities,” said a representative from Sunshine Heroes. “This center will open doors for children and families to access education, healthcare, and recreation in ways they never have before.”
